A Jost Van Dyke 2016

We were pretty ambitious about getting a mooring ball at Great Harbor 2 days before New Years. We had an epic downwind leg from Scrub Island which got us there about 1.5 hours earlier but it was still a race for the last mooring ball  on the busiest harbor of the year. When we showed up the boat before us got the real estate. Bummer. But we headed next door to Little Harbor and were the second to last to pick up a mooring ball. Two days out and the field is full meaning New Years at Foxy would be one for the books.
One thing we always underestimate when we sail is how  tired we are at the end of the day. We haven’t seen 10pm the entire trip and now we are gonna try to see midnight at Foxy’s after a decent haul from Virgin Gorda. We showed up to Great Harbor early enough where we had a drink at Foxy’s to scope the scene. We spotted these amazing hammocks right on the beach outside of Foxy’s but those would certainly be taken at midnight on New Years. We figured standing room only and a lot of beach towel time would deacribe our 2016 New Years.   Unfortunately, Cathy and Gene left before New Years because they had an early Jan 1 flight out of Puerto Rico so for the first time since we started dating 8 years ago, New Years would be just the two of us. I was feeling giddy with butterflies since it was a feeling I hadn’t felt in a long time. Anyone that knows us knows that we typically ring in the new year with a big group of friends. This year would be different no doubt.

Heading back to Foxy’s around 9pm we had a lobster dinner at Sydney’s in Little Harbor and it was the best decision we made all night next to the last decision we made before midnight at Foxy’s. Foxy’s was popping off. People dancing and singing at the top of their lungs. We even ran into our Yacht Week Croatia Skipper Kerry who was crewing a BVI Crew. It was great to see a familiar face in the midst of hundreds of people.  After chatting with Kerry around 930pm, Blane and I could barely keep our eyes open so we decided a nap on the beach would be just the thing to energize us before the new year. Two hours later, we wake up with luckily 30 minutes until midnight. Walking towards Foxy’s the packed crowd led us to believe we didn’t have a chance to get close. Suddenly Blane spotted an open hammock right in front of Foxy’s. Great view of the bar, the beach, and the ocean breeze.   Rocking in the hammock, we brought in the new year just us and this next adventure. Can’t wait for what 2016 has in store for The Boyntons.
