About Us

Ahoy Friends!

We are Cindy and Blane Boynton and our passion for adventure is what continues to fuel our passion for life. We met 10 years ago in Arizona on a skydiving team. Yes that’s right… our passion for adventure and for one another began free falling from 13K feet. Blane was a co-founder of a skydiving team and was looking for fourth team member. Luckily, Cindy had just moved to Arizona and was on the hunt for a new team so naturally the stars aligned and initially an amazing friendship was formed!

Teammates first, we spent 3 years competing together on the team and became national champions in the process. We spent all our time either coaching skydivers, training for competition, competing or supporting drop zone activities which meant other social activities were put on pause. Once we started dating  a few years later, we decided we did not want to spend all our time skydiving: We wanted to travel the world, find other adventures and most of all enjoy other hobbies like sailing.

We moved to Chicago March 2015 and experienced our first Chicago summer sailing on Lake Michigan with a Tartan 10 crew.  Blane successfully completed his first Race to Mackinac Island this past summer and Cindy finished her first summer on a racing team. We both gained valuable experience for our ultimate sailing dream ahead.

Where did #GringoRicanSailing Come From?

We were married in Puerto Rico May 2013 and our social media wedding hashtag was #gringoricanwedding. Blane is a gringo from Davenport, IA and Cindy is a rican from Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico so you can see how that spiraled into other popular hashtags like:  #gringoricanhoneymoon #gringoricananniversary #gringoricanmackinac and now #GringoRicanSailing.
